Dr. John Nemunaitis—Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Nemunaitis is the President of the Board and Chief Scientific Officer of the Taylor Family Research Foundation.
Dr. Nemunaitis is the Chief Scientific Officer and cofounder of Gradalis, Inc. He leads development of immunotherapeutic and precision technology products under development at Gradalis. Most advanced product, Vigil, is a late stage product involving ovarian cancer that received RMAT designation advancement from FDA (January 2025).
Dr. Nemunaitis earned his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, followed by residency training at Boston City Hospital in Massachusetts. He also completed a fellowship in oncology/hematology at the University of Washington School of Medicine’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Wash. He worked with E. Donnall Thomas, nobel prize laureate, for several years on development of immunotherapy approaches. He later founded the Mary Crowley Cancer Research Translational Center and two biotech companies (Strike and Gradalis) before coming to Toledo where he was Chief of UT’s Division of Hematology and Oncology, Medical Director of the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center at The University of Toledo and Director of UT’s Jacobson Center for Clinical and Translational Research. His specialties involving general oncology include clinical trial development, genetic signal mapping and precision therapy. Likewise, his current research interests involve targeted immunotherapy, targeted molecular therapy and bioinformatics profiling.
Dr. Nemunaitis has published 509 peer reviewed manuscripts and book chapters, has overseen clinical trial management of over 6500 cancer patients, has carried out 72 government regulatory (FDA, RAC, IND) presentations for biotechnology product development and has 27 issued intellectual property therapeutic discoveries across all 5 patent families. His work has led to 42,475 citations, D-Index of 99 and global scholar GPS ranking of top 0.08%.
