Encouraging Response Seen in TCRC Precision Therapy Trial for Treatment-Resistant Lymphoma

Taylor Cancer Research Center Reports Encouraging Response in Investigational Precision Therapy Trial for Treatment-Resistant Lymphoma

A participant receiving care through Taylor Cancer Research Center has shown an encouraging response after entering an investigational precision therapy clinical trial for treatment-resistant lymphoma.

The 69-year-old participant, a mental health counselor and married mother of four, had progressive metastatic lymphoma that had not responded to standard treatment. After beginning an investigational precision therapy drug through Taylor Cancer Research Center, follow-up imaging showed a strong response. Within eight weeks, multiple cancer lesions had significantly decreased in size, reaching partial response status. With continued treatment over the following months, one lesion completely disappeared and more than 90% of the remaining disease burden had shrunk.

The participant shared that after her cancer returned following standard treatment, she felt discouraged and scared. She said that while waiting for her first scans after starting the clinical trial was difficult, seeing the cancer begin to shrink and some lesions disappear brought relief and gratitude. She also reflected on the importance of being part of research that could help others in the future and expressed appreciation for the supportive care she received from the TCRC team.

John Nemunaitis, MD, Chief Scientific Officer of Taylor Cancer Research Center, noted that the participant’s response has been especially encouraging given the lack of any observed significant toxic effects. The participant continues treatment through the trial at TCRC.

Taylor Cancer Research Center currently has 29 experimental precision therapies under study across multiple cancer types and stages of disease. This growing clinical trial program reflects TCRC’s mission to expand access to innovative, research-driven treatment options in Northwest Ohio.

Precision therapy targets the genetic defect in cancer that drives growth and spread. Through comprehensive gene profiling using blood or cancer tissue samples, clinicians can identify the cancer-driving signal and match patients to therapies designed to target that abnormal pathway more specifically. This approach also allows response to treatment to be followed over time through sequential molecular testing of blood.

Taylor Family Research Foundation recently established Taylor Cancer Research Center to support the development of infrastructure and personnel for a robust precision therapy oncology clinical trial program operating within The Toledo Clinic Cancer Centers in Maumee, Ohio. The goal is to advance cancer treatment options and bring promising therapeutic opportunities closer to home for patients across Northwest Ohio.
